Doctorate in Public Administration and Government (CDAPG)

Objective: The program intends to form highly qualified in Public Administration researchers and teachers who can contribute to building knowledge and practical concerns of the society they are in.

The political aspects of each of these topics will be given special emphasis. Furthermore, the program will also seek to develop students' research skills with special focus on methodological training. This training program will produce professionals able to face the complexities and challenges encountered in the realms of government and produce analyses to design, implement and assess public policies.

Target public: It is meant for Master-degree holders in the fields of Administration, Social Sciences and akin areas. Students graduated from this program will respond to the increasing demand of the job market for teachers in the fields of Administration, Social Sciences or Economics, as well as researches in research centers of public entities, such as IPEA, IBGE, SEADE, Banco Central, Receita Federal, etc.

Research Lines: Currently, the program is organized in 3 research lines. The student will develop his/her thesis related to one of the research lines, that will be selected upon registration for the selection process and used as main base of knowledge to develop his/her work.

Course duration: Doctorate Programs will last at least 24 months and at most 54 months.

Course load: Doctorate students without a Master's degree must accumulate at least 48 credit hours, that is, 30 credit hours for the Master's plus 18 credit hours following the structure below:

- 3-credit compulsory and optional subjects
- 1.5-credit Research Seminars (7 meetings)

Doctorate students with a Master's degree are automatically exempt from taking the 30 credit hours of Master's and must, at least, accumulate 18 credit hours of Doctorate.

Credit Acknowledgement: Students can seek exemption or credit acknowledgement for subjects already taken, pursuant to specific requirements set forth on the Graduate Program Rules. The decision will be made by the Graduate Program Coordinator, after consulting the Departments of Teaching and Research.

Tutors: Students will assigned a tutor to assist them with their general study planning, choosing subjects, writing and publishing articles, in addition to preparing their dissertation, essay or thesis.

Agreements and Exchange Programs: FGV-EAESP has agreements with top-quality and prestigious foreign institutions for the exchange of its students. Exchange programs are considered important not only because they allow our students the opportunity to follow part of its program abroad, but also because of the international atmosphere provided by foreign students who spend a semester at FGV-EAESP. These programs are run by the International Relations Coordination (CRI). To participate, students have to go through a selection process.
